Known as "The Crown Jewel of Historic Old Mesilla," the Double Eagle Restaurant is located just three miles southwest of Las Cruces and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Along with its rich history, it is also believed to be a truly haunted location.
Local legend says the Carlotta Room is haunted by ghosts with a tragic story of forbidden love and murder. The master of the house fell in love with a servant, and his mother could not let that be. In a mindless rage after finding the two together, she stabbed the young girl to death and accidentally struck her son when he jumped in to help his lover. The two lovers are known to haunt this room, staying together where they both died.
