Located in Mora County, New Mexico, the Fort Union National Monument is a unit of the United States National Park Service. The abandoned fort is said to be haunted by a soldier that was based at the fort when he fell in love with a woman that was a gold digger. The woman agreed to marry the soldier and even said she would never marry again if he ended up dying in battle. Of course, the woman ended up marrying again. The soldier's ghost was said to have crashed the party - causing the guests to fall into a trance while he danced with the woman, sucking the life out of her in the process.
